Building pure muscle and toning are both worthy of their own pursuits. Depending on the athlete, there’s a lot that goes into choosing which is the right avenue for you. Here are a few tips on making that decision and how it will impact your fitness regimen.

Building pure muscle

Learning how to build muscle is easy, while performing and actually committing to the pursuit is not for the faint of heart. Strangely enough, it ends up being more of a mental obstacle than a physical one.

It can take a great deal of time to see real change, and targeted areas for each athlete will bring in different results. Some athletes simply take on muscle more quickly to the chest or arms, while the opposite can be said for other athletes. This can make attaining your goals more frustrating and easier to give up on. Luckily, we’re here to help.

Why tone?

Toning can be great if you’re less aggressive towards gaining muscle mass. Looking fit while not putting on much additional weight sounds pretty great, doing it right is a whole different story. Toning effectively comes down to a lifestyle shift if you are pursuing getting optimal output.

Dieting goals – Metabolism works differently for every athlete, but a diet fit for toning is definitely recommended. Spiking your vegetable and fruit intake while cutting down on calories from beverages will make a great deal of difference for your toning pursuit in the long term.

More bodyweight exercises – Luckily enough, toning can require less gym equipment in most cases. This includes all kinds of bodyweight squats, sit-ups/twist exercises, rowing, lunges, etc.

Longer workouts – Workouts are longer if your aim is to tone. This will require longer sets, lower weight, and more availability in your schedule. Before you commit to toning, make sure that you are prepared for that kind of workout.
